TRUENAS FEATURES

More than a place
to store your data.

Unified access, flexible performance and an open foundation. Explore what TrueNAS can bring to your infrastructure, and the choices that shape your system.

Configure your system

01 / UNIFIED

One platform.
Different ways to connect.

Access shared files, block storage and S3-compatible objects through a unified storage platform. Use the interfaces your applications need while reducing the number of separate arrays you manage.

Build private-cloud storage within your own infrastructure, with capacity and connectivity under your control. Compare the full cost of hardware, support and operation with your cloud requirements when deciding what belongs on premises.

  • File: SMB and NFS for shared folders and application data.
  • Block: iSCSI for applications and virtualisation; additional protocols depend on the platform.
  • Object: S3-compatible access for applications built around object storage.

02 / FAST

Performance starts
with the workload.

Hybrid TrueNAS systems combine DRAM and flash with high-capacity hard disks. Frequently read data can be served from fast memory or an optional flash cache, while the storage pool provides capacity. All-flash and NVMe systems offer another route for demanding workloads.

TrueCache® NVDIMM, available on selected M-Series models, provides low-latency write caching. Cache devices and supported combinations vary by model; they should be specified alongside the drives and connectivity.

More cache is not automatically better. Read-heavy workloads and synchronous writes have different needs, so the configuration should reflect your applications and access patterns.

Synchronous writes are a separate consideration.

A suitable separate log device (SLOG) can help workloads that require write acknowledgements. It is not a general-purpose cache for every write.

03 / OPEN SOURCE

An open foundation.
An enterprise system.

TrueNAS is built on OpenZFS and an open-source heritage shaped by community development. Enterprise appliances bring that foundation together with supported hardware and commercial services.

Open source and enterprise support serve different purposes. The software foundation gives you visibility into the technology; a support agreement defines the assistance available when you need it.

Our UK team can help turn those capabilities into a practical system design, from the initial specification through installation and ongoing support.

04 / DATA PROTECTION

Plan for recovery,
as well as capacity.

Snapshots preserve a point-in-time view of a dataset. Replication can send snapshots to a second system, giving you a separate recovery location.

OpenZFS checksums help detect corruption. Repair depends on a healthy redundant copy, so the pool layout matters alongside the software features.

  • Choose snapshot frequency around how much recent work you can afford to lose.
  • Keep a separate recovery copy; a local snapshot alone is not an independent backup.
  • Test restoration and include retention, access controls and off-site requirements in the design.

05 / GROWTH & AVAILABILITY

Room to expand.
Options to stay available.

Compatible expansion shelves let you add capacity to supported platforms. H, F and V systems offer high-availability configurations, with dual controllers supporting failover.

Capacity, performance and availability need to be considered together. Adding disks does not automatically remove a networking bottleneck, and dual controllers do not replace backups.

Use the configurator to explore drive layouts and shelves. We will review compatibility, controller options and the growth path with your quotation.

06 / ENTERPRISE SUPPORT

Support to match
your operation.

TrueNAS offers Bronze, Silver and Gold enterprise service contracts. Choose coverage around the impact of downtime and the assistance your team needs. Haptic Networks can help you select the right option and provide UK pre-sales advice and professional services.

BRONZE

Remote assistance

Phone and email support, with hardware replacement provisions under the selected contract.

SILVER

Extended coverage

Extended help-desk coverage for qualifying critical incidents, with on-site support options subject to service terms.

GOLD

Around-the-clock help

24×7 help-desk coverage, with enhanced on-site support and repair provisions subject to location and contract.

Severity, location, hardware and contract terms affect coverage and response commitments. Confirm the applicable service level with your quote. View official support terms ↗
